Dr. Vernon Barnes is a physiologist and research scientist at the Georgia Prevention Institute of the Medical College of Georgia, where research grants from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health have been received to study the effects of the Transcendental Meditation program on high-normal blood pressure. His scientific research has been published in several leading scientific journals, such as Psychosomatic Medicine, the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine, the American Journal of Cardiology, and the American Journal of Hypertension. He is a recipient of the American Psychosomatic Society Scholar Award (1999), and a member of the American Psychosomatic Society, the International Society of Hypertension in Blacks, and the Society for Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Barnes has presented research papers at over a dozen scientific conferences.
